CInderella Snowglobe

Presenting a Cinderella Snowglobe.

Alright this is obviously not a traditional depiction of Cinderella - I mean, I don't believe Cinderella ever stood atop her carriage - but it is a fine representation of the much loved classic Disney Princess.

A friend of mine once explained that Disney was recently trying to go back to the classic way that greats such as Cinderella were made i.e. the hard way - animating individual cell and putting them into sequence versus the now quite popular 3D and computer graphic rendering that most cartoons are made of from today.

Apparently Tangled was supposed to be Disney's fist attempt to go back to this style of animation.

Guess that didn't pan out.

Las Vegas Snowglobe

Presenting a Las Vegas Snowglobe. Yep, that's the Statue of Liberty in the Nevadan Oasis. I'm not really sure when or how the French Lady made its way to Las Vegas. And it makes you wonder if the adage "What goes on in Vegas, stays in Vegas" applies to her.

Happily I've never been to Las Vegas. But then I've never had any need for gambling. A good show maybe.

This particular rendition of Sin City was given just this Christmas as a  Gift to the Fair Lady by her brother who had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas sometime in 2012.

So it only seems fitting that this gift becomes the first of many Snow-Globes to grace Fair Lady Tower in the New Year.

Hong Kong Junk Snowglobe

Presenting a Hong Kong Junk Snowglobe purchased from the former British colony which is now probably the main reason for the strength of China's economy.

I do believe that this particular Snowglobe was purchased at Chek Lap Kok Airport AKA Hong Kong Airport, the last time the Fair Lady and I were in Hong Kong.

Chek Lap Kok Airport which lies on a piece of reclaimed land is one of the nicest airports that I've ever been in and if I ever get trapped to live in an airport for years, I'd like to be trapped in Chek Lap Kok.

Another nice thing about Chek Lap Kok is that you get a fine view of Hong Kong Harbor before you land. Unfortunately, Chinese junks no longer ply the harbor as much as they used to, but I think that they will endure the test of time as one of the more romantic symbols of Hong Kong.

Universal Studios Singapore: "Revenge of The Mummy" Snowglobe

Presenting a "Revenge of the Mummy" Snowglobe from Universal Studios in Singapore.

The "Revenge of the Mummy" is an in-door roller coaster ride attraction in Universal Studios in Singapore that can probably be qualified as a prequel of the popular Mummy series of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The ride explains why the "Book of the Dead" and the "Book of Life" were in the wrong locations in the first Mummy movie.

Sadly the ride does not involve any of the actors from the series - not even their voices.

Anyway, this particular snowblobe was purchased not just for the Tower's collection, butas a keepsake of a wonderful afternoon spent with the Fairlady in Singapore.

Leaning Tower of Pisa Snowglobe

Presenting a Snowglobe featuring the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

This particular Snowglobe, that was purchased in the SM Department store here in the Philippines, features the famous Italian landmark mounted on a base that features even more prominent Pisan tourist attractions.

Unfortunately, as you can see, the base of the Snowglobe is starting to deteriorate. If it tilts anymore, the Leaning Tower might become straight.

The Leaning of Tower of Pisa Snowglobe may not have the best of production values, but it still provides us with a wonderful view of the City of Pisa, fine examples of Italian Architecture and a small dash of Tuscan culture.

Luck of the Irish Snowglobe

Presenting a "Luck of the Irish" Snowglobe.

The Fairlady got this luck-filled item from a Malaysian national who also collects and trades snowglobes.

Today this particular Snowglobe sits on a high shelf hopefully actually being a lucky charm to all the members of our family.

The Luck of the Irish Snowglobe stands a wee 2.5" tall and its base is only 1.6" wide.

Personally I think that it's diminutive stature actually adds to the charm and personality of the figure and I would definitely not have it any other way.

Gone With The Wind Snowglobe

Presenting a "Gone With The Wind Snowglobe". This is the third of three Movie Classic Snowglobes that was purchased for the Tower's Lady two Christmases ago that included the Asphalt Jungle Snowglobe and the Breakfast at Tiffany's Snowglobe.

The Fair lady later found all three for sale at a store in Cubao for PhP 10,000 each (US$ 233) which is definitely not what I paid for them.

The "Gone With The Wind" Snowglobe features Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) and Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) as they appeared in a Charity Ball for Confederate Soldiers in Atlanta in the 1939 Movie.
